The Wrigley River Run
The Long Beach Neighborhood Foundation (LBNF) is happy to announce its second annual Wrigley River Run, which will be held on Saturday June 6, 2009. The event, which will include a 10k, a 5k and a short kids' run known as the Tad Pole Race, will start and end on Pacific Avenue, and, as the name suggests, most of the running will occur on the LA River Trail. Event organizers expect as many as 500 participants on race day. More information on this event, including registration information, is available at www.wrigleyriverrun.com.
The Wrigley River Run is being organized by the Long Beach Neighborhood Foundation (LBNF), a 501(c)3 not for profit organization committed to organizing and sponsoring athletic events and programs in Long Beach that promote community involvement, education, tolerance, and a healthy non-violent lifestyle, particularly among our city's at-risk youth. All funds generated by LBNF will be used to benefit at-risk youth through grants to local programs and through economic development efforts in historically underserved parts of Long Beach.
"This will be a great chance for people across Long Beach to come together, get outside with their family, friends, and neighbors, get some exercise, have some fun, and support a great cause to help the youth of our city," says race organizer, Gavin Mc Kiernan. A finish line festival with live entertainment, prizes, and awards to top finishers will follow the race. All 5K and 10K participants will receive goodie bags and commemorative T-shirts.
